Longer lasting hair color. Reflections of You Fairfax and ROY Salon Fair Lakes

Long Lasting Hair Color Tips

Posted by REFLECTIONS OF YOU Fairfax / Fair Lakes

Coloring your hair is perhaps one of the most popular non-invasive techniques to significantly enhance your appearance. In fact, it's estimated that about 75 percent of women dye their hair in some form. After a few weeks from your last coloring appointment, you may notice that your hair color has faded and your beautiful locks are looking drab and dull. Learn how to keep your hair color looking fabulous longer with the following steps:
  1. Go more natural.
When you choose a color that more closely resembles your natural hair color and less contrasts, the grow-out stage, or roots, will be far less noticeable.
  2. Wait to wash.
Allow two to three days after a salon color treatment before washing hair to allow color pigment to bind to the hair shaft. This also allows hair's outer layer (cuticle) to calm down from the irritating chemical process. When you do wash, use tepid water with a cool water final rinse to seal down the cuticle and keep color inside the hair shaft, where it belongs.
  3. Cool it on the heat.
Hot water and heated styling tools both damage hair's cuticle and allow color pigment to leak out quicker over time. Set your 450 degree flat iron down to 200 degrees and style in smaller sections for healthier hair and longer-lasting color.
  4. Wear a hat outside.
Keep color-treated hair out of the sun as UV rays damage the color pigments and cause them to discolor and fade. Wear a hat and use a leave-in conditioner or spray-on hair sunscreen.

  5. Use haircare products specifically for color-treated hair.
These special products will not contain the drying alcohol or sodium laurel sulfate (SLS or similar "sulfate" derivatives), which have been shown to dry out and damage the cuticle.

The key to longer-lasting color is to protect the cuticle from getting roughed up or opened up to keep color inside the hair shaft longer. Proper hair products are critical to extended color life and Surface professional hair care has all the key ingredients that prolong color up to 30%. roysalon.com

Holiday Gifts Fairfax Va. Salon and Spa Gifts Reflections of You Fairfax

The Gift of Time

December 20th, 2012 • Posted by REFLECTIONS OF YOU Fairfax • Permalink

What makes a perfect gift? Is it how much the present costs? Or perhaps it is the thought behind the gift? When considering what to get for your friends or family members for that next special occasion, have you considered giving the gift of an experience? If not, consider these special differences that really help such experiential gifts leave a lasting impression.

First, let's take a look at many traditional gifts. A designer watch, an elegantly-framed photo set, a new computer tablet, top-of-the-line purses, or new clothes-all will certainly make a fine impression on the recipient. However, just how lasting are these presents? Will they bring you and your friend closer together? Do they really speak to the inner person and show just how much you care?

On the other hand, an experience takes the concept of gift giving to another level. Such gifts, when chosen well, will send the recipient on a memorable trip, sure to please and help solidify relationships. The lasting memories of a great experience can turn a rather ordinary present into something spectacular.

Perhaps your friend would enjoy a relaxing treatment. Might a high-quality manicure or pedicure trip, covered by you, be the perfect way to show you care about your friend? How about the gift of a visit with your favorite hairstylist for your family member? These are just a few examples of fantastic gift ideas for your friends and family. Such experiences will always beat out simple materialistic gifts every time.

Why do such experiences often play out as the best present possible? Think about what such a gift says to the receiver. It shows you care about them enough to find not just an item but a real memory-maker tailored just for them. That visit to luxury tells your friend you really care about their well-being and whole person health. A simple gift of an item that anyone could pick out really doesn't speak anywhere near as many volumes to the receiver.

Finally, consider the importance of perceptions when comparing the two gift types. Most people will certainly appreciate the thoughtfulness of an aptly chosen experience far more than a simple item. After all, it's fairly easy to recognize that picking a great experience is considerably difficult and time-consuming task, more so than just going by the mall to grab another purse, fashion accessory and so forth. Giving the gift of an experience shows just how much one cares for another by the amount of time and thought such a gift requires in the choosing.

In the end, a truly rewarding experience will always trump a material gift. The memories of such an experience will last long after simple items fail to amuse. Such experiences may build better relationships and help establish a lasting connection, be it for your friend, family member or significant other. Take the plunge and consider turning your next gift into a memorable experience today!http://roysalon.com/

Hair Styling without damage ROY Salon Fairfax Va. Fair Lakes

Practice safe flat ironing ! If you are not using a thermal protecting spray when you flat iron (especially if you are not keeping up with trims) you are creating those awful little split ends that start in the middle of your head! Trinity protein tonic is a light weight spray that is made up of, you guess it, protein. Protein helps restore your hair. And your hair is made up of proteins. You know where I'm going here. Friends don't let friends have split ends.

Warm Nail Color and Care Advice for the Colder Seasons

Posted by Reflections Of You • Permalink

When the cooler temperatures signify that autumn and winter are upon us, it also means that new nail polish colors are here to take over. Gone with the hot weather are the bright neons and cotton candy pastels, and in with the colder weather are the bold, the dramatics, the neutrals, and even the darks. Be sure to visit us and get your nails polish colors updated. We have all of the latest collections and favorite nail polish brands that you can easily transition from the summer season to the fall/winter season with. For the fall and winter seasons, the colors that are all the rage are: forest and hunter greens, deeper reds along with burgundy, subtle mauves, and neutrals such as dark grey, taupe, and light tan. These colors not only complement mostly all skin tones, but will also keep you up to trend. Our nail expert can even offer tips on which exact shades complement you best.

Of course, it is a must to incorporate some holiday season hues into your nail wardrobe mix. Whether the nail polish shade is a stocking colored red, a Christmas tree green, or a sparkly translucent snow color, these shades will not only brighten your overall look, but also bring some extra holiday cheer wherever you go. Want to be adventurous? Ask our nail expert to mix a couple of shades together, whether painting every other nail a different pair of colors, or painting a standalone nail on each hand a distinctly different color. If you have the patience, ask for holiday inspired designs or patterns such as candy cane stripes or gift boxes on your nails to keep up with the festive theme.

Colder weather often means drier conditions associated with cracking, splitting, and brittle nails. During your manicure our nail expert will buff away any sign of damage on your nails and do away with any dryness especially around your cuticles and nail beds. If your nails are particularly brittle, base coats that include nail strengtheners are always an option.

The cooler weather of fall and winter is often a welcome relief from the summer heat and also provides a great time to visit us for a new nail wardrobe fix!
