Reflections of You the best haircuts for your face shape
Ready for a new look ? Get the right haircut for your facial features at Reflections of You Fairfax salon and spa
Our faces are all unique, the hairstyle just brings it out.
Here are a list of the many face shapes and the styles that make them beautiful!
Oval: most versatile face shape, no matter the length of your cut, you’ll look best with layers near your cheekbones, lips or chin; basically whatever the feature you want to highlight
Rectangular or oblong: The wonderful long face shape. The perfect haircut for us is one that doesn't drag down the face, yet adds width. Brow-skimming bangs and Chin-length bobs are also ideal for us because they create the illusion of width. Gwyneth Paltrow's shoulder-length bob is very flattering on a long face. Just make sure your stylist cuts the hair a bit shorter in the back so it doesn't look boring. Curls and waves work well because they add width to the face.
Round: Styles that are flattering and stylish: Try cuts that fall just below the chin. Soft, graduated layers are a great bet because they make your face appear slimmer and tend to remove bulk and weight from the sides. Consider wispy and tapered ends. These de-emphasize the roundness of your face. Bangs are flattering, but keep them long or side-swept
Square: If you have a square face, you'll want to play down your strong, angular jaw. Texture, in the form of curls or choppy ends, does this brilliantly. You can also get away with short, spiky cuts and long, sleek styles with layers that start at the jawline and continue downward.
Heart: Try cuts that fall just below the chin. Soft, graduated layers are a great bet because they make your face appear slimmer and tend to remove bulk and weight from the sides. Consider wispy and tapered ends. These de-emphasize the roundness of your face. Bangs are flattering, but keep them long or side-swept.
Triangular: With a triangular face shape the object is to narrow your chin and widen your forehead.
Layered hairstyles will help balance and soften your prominent jaw line.
Styles with layers that taper at the jaw line can also be flattering.
Diamond:Diamond face shapes need to balance a narrow chin, minimize wider cheek bones and shorten the overall length.
Whatever hairstlye you are looking for, you can be certian that Reflections of You Fairfax will accomplish it!

Reflections of You Fairfax has the “in” on the latest nail polish trends for Fall/Winter 2010
With all the constant trends coming and going throughout the years, weeks or even DAYS, we know how hard it can be to keep up. At Reflections Of You Fairfax, we have no problem doing all the work. Here are the latest and greatest fall/winter nail selections:

Neutrals:Neutral is a great color to use on nails, especially if you are going for a sophisticated look. Some shades of neutral would be nude, light green, brown, greige and pale pink. You can never go wrong with a neutral color, it matches just about everything!
Gem tones:The latest trends do not discriminate against these bold summer colors. They are perfect for making a statement. Some of my favorites in this color scheme are emerald blue, neon orange and mermaid green. If you dare to be different Gem tones are perfect for you!
Metallics: Now this is probably my most favorable type of polish. ANY metallic color is perfect for this season. It has just enough twinkle to grab attention. Nothing speaks the holidays like cranberry reds and champagne with a touch of sparkle.
Purples:I do not think it is possible to find a bad shade of purple. From the innocent periwinkle to daring plum, all colors in this scheme are flattering for everyone.
Reds:Reds are a beautiful color. Expecially on your nails. The blood red color makes for a classy nail at work and a outgoing lady at night.
Reflections of You Fairfax offers all of these colors and more! Our chemical free ZOYA nail polish makes the perfect manicure. So make your nails happy and come by our salon, because even your nails deserve to be in style.
Happy Holidays!

Finding the right skincare products in Northern Va. Reflections of You Fairfax
How many of us have purchased an over the counter facial product repetitively, to only be dissatisfied with the results? I can raise my hand to this. Our skin is so different and finding a product that actually works and is in our price range is difficult. Let me introduce you to Dr. Grandel, a German based skin care line centered on Epigran; a wheat germ based active ingredient. It instantly effects smoothes and tones the skin, refines its texture and reduces the depth of lines delivering intense hydration. I do not know about you, but it sounds like a nice ingredient to add to problem areas or to keep perfect skin even more fantastic! And before the words “sounds expensive” can reach your lips, let me tell you a little more about it.
Dr. Grandel offers fourteen different product lines. It is nearly impossible to find one NOT for your skin type. Dr. Grandel also never tests its products on animals. Only volunteer human testing is done here! Although all of the products are well worth the purchase, her are a couple that I find super amazing:
Let’s talk moisturizer, If you have been blessed with both sensitive and combination skin, I can understand your hesitation in purchasing a moisturizer. Most of the time moisturizers end up adding to our already oily t-zone,(Around the nose) and if we are really lucky, we can even find one that does not make our face break out. Dr Grandel Hydro Active balancer is a personal favorite here at Reflections of You. For only $36, this moisturizer targets combination skin, moisturizing and evening out the t-zones, areas prone to oil.
Now on to the face wash. If you are looking for a basic wash for your sensitive face, the Ultra Sensitive line does wonders. This hypersensitive fragrance-free line cleanses your face without the use of any colourants or preservatives; (which most drug-store products contain) for only $30.
With the cold weather coming up, our faces are begging to be moisturized. Dr Grandel’s Hydro Active moisture mask promises just that. This extraordinary beauty mask revitalizes the skin to a fresh smooth and young look in as little as three minutes! Go ahead, treat yourself, you deserve it! For only $36 what do you have to loose, except beautiful skin?
Now what about those stubborn breakouts? Dr Grandel’s spot-treatment pen is what I like to call “$26 magic.” Just apply to the problem area and voila! It makes your imperfections a thing in the past. Seriously, it works just like that.
I know I know, it might be kind of risqué to purchase a product triple your norm. But think about it, wouldn’t you want a prescribed product especially for your skin? And in reality, it is a great investment. Not only are you going to get the best results from a higher end more effective product, but you will also find yourself making less frequent trips to the store to purchase it! Dr. Grandel’s products believe in the term a little goes a long way.

Brazilian blowout findings Fairfax Va. Salon and Spa
This was sent to us directly from the manufacturer of Brazilian blowout.
Reflections of You Fairfax Salon and SpaOSHA’s Testing Methods Proven Faulty
The Oregon division of OSHA’s (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) recent claims that samples of the Brazilian Blowout Professional Smoothing Solution contained between 4.85% and 10.6% Formaldehyde has been proven to be incorrect.
Doug Schoon, a leading scientist and expert who works with state, federal and international regulators to develop beauty industry related standards and regulations with regards to ingredient safety, consumer testing and cosmetics registrations/regulations, says that the test methods used by Oregon OSHA do not properly measure Formaldehyde in water based cosmetic products. The tests conducted by OSHA actually measured a completely different substance called "Methylene Glycol," and incorrectly referred to this substance as "Formaldehyde." Methylene Glycol is the key functioning ingredient used in most professional hair smoothing treatments currently on the market.
Schoon reports the following:
It is important to understand that Formaldehyde is not a cosmetic ingredient and never has been; it is a gas that cannot be added to cosmetics, and only exists in tiny trace amounts. Misunderstanding the nature of Formaldehyde has led to the incorrect belief that 37% Methylene Glycol is the same as 37% Formaldehyde, when in fact, 37% Methylene Glycol contains only trace amounts of Formaldehyde; less than 0.05% to be precise.
Flaws in the testing methods used by Oregon’s division of OSHA actually cause the creation of additional Formaldehyde that is not normally found in the product, which led to Oregon OSHA erroneously reporting levels of Formaldehyde that cannot possibly exist in the product, especially given that Formaldehyde is a gas. Once again, what OSHA is actually reporting, is the amount of Methylene Glycol in the product, not Formaldehyde.
The only method that accurately measures Formaldehyde in water based cosmetic products is called "13C-NMR," and OSHA did not conduct this particular type of testing. Had OSHA performed this test, they would have discovered that only tiny traces of Formaldehyde are detectable in these products, usually well below 0.0045%.
When heated to very high temperatures, Methylene Glycol can release small amounts of Formaldehyde gas into the air. Research that I have performed on Methylene Glycol containing hair smoothing and straightening products has shown, however, that as long as these types of products are used properly, and in well-ventilated areas, both Cosmetologists and their client's exposure to the Formaldehyde gas are well below the safe levels established by OSHA.
The results are in!!!!!See for yourself.
